I'll be honest...

I'd like to go out and get a drink. Not now, silly, it's the middle of the workday. Just, you know, sometime. Go have drinks, get all buzzy, talk about stuff. You know, girl stuff. Or just stuff.

Problem is, I don't have anyone to do that with any more. The only people we know that still go out to get drinks still go out on the reg-uh-lah. They do things like go to movies and plays, go drinking, and they don't have kids. They make me feel boring, like maybe I should gloss over my completely mundane existence (which leaves me with, well, NOTHING to talk about unless they want to hear about my latest tv interests Warehouse.13, Downton Abbey, or Walking Dead). They're also not people who we know very well, so it isn't like I want to confide in them about how frustrating parenting can be, or how broke we are, or how isolated we feel. All my get a drink or come over for a drink buddies live elsewhere now. Sads.

  1. I could have written this post word-for-word. It's like there are my pre-kid friends, who still go out and socialize all the time, and now I feel left out and like I have nothing to talk about with them, and there are my post-kid friends, and it's like, for some reason, we can ONLY do kid things. Bah. Come down here, we'll go out for a drink! LOL I can even talk Warehouse 13. *g*

  3. I'm sorry you feel so isolated.
NOT GOOD ! and you need that outlet.
What about play groups. Other moms. Other moms of multiples. These are the people you want to feel tingly in your head with and compare stories all night about who's kid shit where.
SEARCH out these people. This will make you a better mom and partner.
    Go. Go now.
    :)

  4. Hey there. We live in Brooklyn too and would love to have a drink with you sometime. Our Will is a bit younger than your girls, but I'm sure we would have plenty to talk about- or we could just spend the time gossiping about other bloggers. Email if you're interested (figboiler@gmail.com).

  6. I don't drink, haven't in 20 years. But the other night my friend and I went out to a bar, a fairly hip one that has GREAT food. First I thought it was just that we're old, but then I realized, it wasn't that we were so much older than anyone, but that we're just so unhip. There we sat with our great food, and $4.50 New Hampshire carbonated lemon lime drink. It was nice to get out. sometimes by the time i get home from work, it's ck homework and get to the shower.
